- Natural vegetation refers to a plant community which has been left undisturbed for a long time.
- It is also termed as Virgin vegetation.
- Flora is used in place for plants.
- Fauna is used in place for animals.
- The factors for vegetation are: Land, Soil, Temperature, Sunlight, Precipitation.
- Forests cover 21% of India.
- There are five types of vegetation: Tropical Evergreen, Tropical Deciduous (Wet and Dry), Tropical thorns and shrubs, Montane (Mountainous) Forests and Mangrove.
- India has 90,000 animal species, 2,000 bird species, 2,546 species of fish (approx.)
- Wildlife Protection Act. was implemented in 1972.
- There are 14 Biosphere reserves in India.
- There are 89 National parks, 490 Wildlife Sanctuaries and Zoological parks in India.
