- Natural vegetation refers to a plant community which has been left undisturbed for a long time.
- It is also termed as Virgin vegetation.
- Flora is used in place for plants.
- Fauna is used in place for animals.
- The factors for vegetation are: Land, Soil, Temperature, Sunlight, Precipitation.
- Forests cover 21% of India.
- There are five types of vegetation: Tropical Evergreen, Tropical Deciduous (Wet and Dry), Tropical thorns and shrubs, Montane (Mountainous) Forests and Mangrove.
- India has 90,000 animal species, 2,000 bird species, 2,546 species of fish (approx.)
- Wildlife Protection Act. was implemented in 1972.
- There are 14 Biosphere reserves in India.
- There are 89 National parks, 490 Wildlife Sanctuaries and Zoological parks in India.

- The river system of an area is called drainage.
- Water dividers: A higher ground such as a mountain or any upland which separates to adjoining drainage basins from each other is called water divider or water shed.
- Drainage Patterns: i)Dentradic Drainage (ii)Rectangular Drainage (iii)trellis Drainage (iv)Radial Drainage
- Perrineal Rivers are the rivers which flow throughout the year.
- According to a treaty, India can use only 20% of Indus' water.

- The crust of the earth has been formed of seven major and minor plates.
- The movements of the plates result in folding, faulting and volcanic activity.
- The oldest landmass was a part of Gondwanaland, a part of the super continent Pangaea.
- The major physio graphic divisions of India are: The Himalayan mountains, The Northern Plains, the peninsular Plateau, The Indian Desert, The Coastal plains, The islands.
- Himalayas have more than 6 of the tallest 10 mountain peaks of the world.
- Kanchenjunga is the tallest mountain in India.
- The northern plain has been formed due to the play of three major rivers: Indus, Ganga and the Brahmaputra.
- The Anai Mudi(2,695 m) and the Doda betta (2,637 m) are the highest peaks of the southern India.
- Mahendragiri(1,501 m) is the highest peak of Eastern Ghats.
- The Chilika Lake is the largest salt water lake in India.

- The main land of India extends between latitudes 8 degrees 4'N and 37 degrees 6' N and longitudes 68 degrees 7'E and 97 degrees 25'E.
- The Tropic of Cancer is located at 23 degrees 30'N.
- The former southernmost point of India, the Indira Point, was submerged in the tsunami of 2004.
- The current southernmost point of India is the Cape Comorin situated near Kanyakumari.
- India is the 7th largest country in the world in terms of area.
- India has a land boundary of 15,200 km.
- The total length of the coastline is 7,516.6 km including A&N island and the Lakshadweep islands.
- Before 1947, there were 2 types of states in India, Princely states and the provinces.
